Program Overview

Deploy 8 mobile medical convoys to underserved informal settlements across Greater Cairo, delivering free specialist consultations across multiple disciplines, point-of-care diagnostics, essential medications, and health education to approximately 4,500 underserved individuals over a three-month period. The mobile unit will serve as a decentralized healthcare-delivery platform, bridging the gap between residents of informal areas and specialized services they currently cannot access.

By integrating surgical care with clinical consultations, the mission ensured patients received both immediate intervention and guidance for post-operative recovery and long-term health management.

Why This Project?

The Problem and Need

Residents of Greater Cairo’s informal settlements face severe barriers to healthcare, including overcrowded primary units, prohibitive private specialist costs, and limited access to secondary and tertiary hospitals. These barriers contribute to delayed diagnoses, maternal and child health complications, and out-of-pocket costs exceeding 40% of household income. A shortage of localized diagnostic tools such as ultrasound, CBC, and ECG allows diabetes, hypertension, and hepatitis C to go undetected until advanced stages, reinforcing a cycle of preventable disease and economic hardship.

Our Solution

EWD plans to deploy 8 mobile medical units to underserved communities in Greater Cairo, including areas such as Manshiyet Nasser, Ezbet El Nakhl, and Imbaba. Internal data from previous EWD projects in Naga Hammadi and Alexandria indicates that when medical services and medications are provided free of charge at community level, patient compliance and early-intervention rates increase by more than 70%.

Enhance healthcare equity in Greater Cairo’s underserved informal areas by delivering multidisciplinary consultations, portable diagnostics, free medication, and health-literacy sessions to approximately 4,500 beneficiaries within three months.
